What To Bring to a PPA Tour Event

Author: Andrew Gilman | July 26, 2023

Don’t forget your ticket, and don’t forget to have a good time.

If you have the first, you won’t have to worry about the second because PPA Tour events are a blast to watch.

And when watching the best pros in the world, make sure you have everything you need to make the most of your PPA Tournament experience.

Here’s what you should bring as a spectator:

Comfortable clothing

Check the forecast. You’ll want to dress appropriately for sure. Don’t guess. If it’s going to be cold, pack an extra jacket. If it’s going to be hot, make sure you have the right, breathable fabrics that won’t keep you from viewing the tournament in discomfort.

If the tournament is outside, bring some sunscreen, a hat, and glasses to keep that sun off your face. If the tournament is indoors, count on the air conditioner blasting away, so bring a layer or two.

Rain gear might be a necessity, too. Obviously, players won’t be in action if the courts are wet, but you don’t want to be soaked if you’re sitting around and waiting during any inclement weather.

Seating

Is this a tournament where you are outside and can provide your own seat? Or is it inside a “stadium seating” kind of facility? Depending on the venue. You may need to bring your own seat, a blanket, or something to sit on. Check with the tournament logistics folks and see what would be the best option for you. If you’re planning on spending all day at the event, maybe a small pillow or cushion would make the viewing experience a bit better and more comfortable for you.

Food and Drink

Some tournaments have plenty of food and drink vendors, options, and opportunities to get lots of different kinds of refreshments. Some don’t. If you’re heading to a tournament as a spectator, make sure to check on this, and bring plenty of your own snacks and drinks if it is allowed to bring in food. Pack a cooler with some water, sports drinks, and some snacks. You’ll be glad you did.

Capture those memories

Bring some binoculars, a camera, or something to take pictures with. You’ll want to remember the occasion, so get a good look at that great ATP and maybe get it recorded, too. A camera or a phone that takes pictures is a great way to get some pictures. A lot of the pro players on the PPA Tour are very approachable and will be happy to take pictures with you. Just make sure to ask first!

Money

Some venues only accept cards, so if you only have cash, you may be out of luck. You’ll want to bring cash and a card, just in case you want to buy some food, get a shirt, hat, or other merchandise or buy a souvenir.

Charger

If you’re on your phone all day, taking pictures, videos, and texting, you might need to charge it up so you’re ready to go for the championship match. You wouldn’t want to run out of battery at the wrong time. Pack a portable charger that is easy to carry and will give you the juice you need to make it through a long day of watching the pros.

Schedule

Getting a schedule of all the events, times, and order of play can really enhance the spectating experience.

It’s always helpful to know who’s going to be playing on Championship Court and when. Also, maybe you’re interested in a team or player that doesn’t get a lot of time in the spotlight. A good schedule will help you find out what court and what time your favorite players are in action.

Represent!

Get rowdy, have a great time, and cheer on your favorite players by wearing shirts or accessories supporting your player or supporting your favorite sport – pickleball.

Double check

Every venue and every tournament is slightly different. Make sure to do some research and find out about specific rules at the event you’re heading to. There may be some restrictions you might not be aware of, so check closely and read up on all the specifics before you arrive.
