The PPA Tour adds an exciting and historical event to its 2022 calendar: the Tournament of Champions

SALT LAKE CITY, UT (March 16, 2022) – One of the oldest and widely recognized tournaments in pickleball, Brigham City’s Tournament of Champions (TOC) will take place August 17-20 under the aegis of the PPA. Birthed in 2012, the Tournament of Champions was the first tournament to offer prize money, the first tournament to use certified refs for all professional matches, and the first Tier 1 tournament outside of Nationals.

“The TOC is a flagship tournament for pickleball, and we are excited to be a part of their continued journey,” said Connor Pardoe, commissioner of the PPA. “Joining forces with their team ensures that the best players in the world can attend and compete in this historical event.”

With an action-packed schedule for 2022 that includes 20+ events and attracts the top athletic talent from around the globe, the PPA Tour is the undisputed home of pickleball and is now also home to the Tournament of Champions. The PPA team will be traveling out to Brigham City to help handle operations, logistics, and broadcasting for the entirety of the event.

“The TOC is proud of its humble beginnings in the pro pickleball world,” said tournament founder John A Gullo. “We look forward to joining with the PPA to keep the TOC at the forefront of the best that pro pickleball has to offer.”

Tournament director Kyle Klein also weighed in on the new alliance, stating that “Brigham City, home of the TOC, will continue its tradition of presenting one of the premier pickleball tournaments in the country. PPA Head Referee Don Stanley and his crew will join us on-site to provide qualified referees for every pro and amateur match on our 24 permanent, dedicated courts. We look forward to welcoming fans and players from all over and giving them the chance to experience where pro pickleball began.”

Player registration for the TOC opens Thursday, March 17, 2022 and will remain open until July 15, 2022.
