Downtime For the PPA Tour Means Vacation Time for Players

Author: Andrew Gilman | July 11, 2023

The PPA Tour is off until mid-July, so we checked in with a few players to see what they were doing with their “downtime.”

Here’s what they had to say, and check back next week for some more answers.

DYLAN FRAZIER

I just got back to my apartment in Columbia, Mo.,  last night. While I’m back I’ll be in the gym and doing some off-the-court training. I’m going golfing, playing basketball and going to the Lake of the Ozarks. I’ll play and drill pickleball a few times. In about two weeks, I’m going to fly to Florida to train with some of the players there for five-to-seven days leading up to Denver.

RYAN SHERRY

Once again, pickleball isn’t my first priority. I’m always working, and after playing in Texas and San Clemente, the last thing I need is a vacation.

My 40th birthday was on June 6, and yes, I celebrated, but not at the level I wanted to. This week I’m taking a mental lapse and having a party in Miami. I’ll be hitting the pool, and the casino and will have little sleep. Then I’m heading to Boston to party with the Gronkowskis.

Of course, I have to be prepared for the 4th of July, so I’m going to Newport Beach, Calif., and celebrating there. I’ll wind it all down by going to a UFC fight in Vegas after that.

And yes, I will be doing pickleball training. I’ll be working about four hours per day where I’m on the court and working with a company that specializes in high-altitude training. I’ll get to Denver early and be focused.

JORJA JOHNSON

The past three weeks have been a lot of fun, traveling and playing pickleball with everyone on tour, but it’s also been very tiring and I’m looking forward to my time off.

When I’m home I enjoy getting to spend time with my dog Barrett. I also enjoy getting back into my workout routine and spending time with friends. The only thing I have planned so far is a short road trip to visit some friends and take a little vacation.

GABE TARDIO

I’m going to go to Bolivia to visit family and friends. They’ve opened up a small pickleball facility there so I’ll be doing a little exhibition so people can see how to play, learn the rules, etc., and then I’ll have a week long vacation to Cancun with family and friends.
